PWF's 5th Annual Garden Party

Friday, July 24, 2009

6:30-8:30 PM

BARB JOHNSON'S HOUSE

Speaker: Ginny Chapman

Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.
2 Corinthians 9:6-9

The garden party was a hit again this year!   Everyone really enjoyed all aspects of this fun event. And our speaker Ginny Chapman did a great job. The small group time and discussion questions were meaty  and encouraging.  The food was "just right" and the weather could not have been better!  Many women stayed until after midnight talking and laughing outside under Barb's gazebo! We just could not get enough fellowship with one another!

In the winter of 1983, a few women from Seattle began talking about the distinctive needs of Christian women who worked outside the home. At that time, most churches offered women's ministry programs during work hours, making it difficult or impossible for working women to participate. Also, women in the workplace seemed to have particular needs they wanted to discuss and topics about which they wanted to learn.

After prayerfully considering these needs, a group of women decided to host a breakfast meeting and invite working women in the community . . . and they hoped 10 to 12 women would respond. The meeting took place in March of 1984, and to the delight of all, more than 50 women attended. Thus the birth of Professional Women's Fellowship and its ministry to women in the greater Seattle area began.

Thank you to all our guests, speakers and volunteers who helped with  and attended the event.  We are proud of PWF's milestone and are grateful to all the women who have invested in this ministry.

"Doing good work"

Women were inspired as we learned what it means to "do good work."

Denise Daniels shared with us the theology undergirding what kind of work we should be doing, and how we should be doing it.

Women were challenged as they shared with other women their own story of "doing good work."

And women were Connected by joining the network of other PWF women in their community.

GARDEN PARTY

"A Well Water Garden"

Isaiah 58:11

The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame.  You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.

Our 4th annual PWF Garden Party held at the lovely Eastside home once again of Barb Johnson, could not have been a more wonderful evening.  The weather was perfect! The "pot luck" food for dinner was delicious! The small group discussions were intimate and impactful.  We all stayed to fellowship long past the agreed upon time to leave.. A big thank you to all who came, and to Barb most of all for opening up her "amazing" garden setting to us!

PWF 2008 Time-Out Retreat
April 19-20, 2008
Rainbow Lodge, North Bend
With speaker Kathy Bence

What is your soul longing for?
Or has it been so long since you checked in that it's hard to say?
This year's retreat was called Spa for the Soul-- a time of
refreshment and self-nurture.

Our speaker helped us look at our desires to live out of our authentic
God-given selves, our 'voices' and our deepest desires.  Women also experienced a luxuriate makeover with the Lord. And also had some fun with masks, art journaling, food and friendship.

An Evening Tea
Tuesday, March 25, 2008

Emerald City Bible Fellowship

"The important thing is neither your nationality nor the religion you profess, but how your faith translates itself in your life."  Eleanor Roosevelt

The March 25th Evening Tea was beyond expectations.  Beyond comment cards and numbers.  From the welcome setup through the food table; from Pat's testimony through Debbie's performance; from table conversation stimulated by the hot water/tea bag question to Laura's closing prayer it was perfect.  To look around that room and see an inter-racial crowd of women sharing and grateful to be together was very moving.  It feels like PWF has come of age.  For those of you who were there a whopping thank you for your continuing support and caring. For those of you who were not you missed a truly great evening.

Song's of Saigon: One Woman's Journey to Freedom

Anh Vu Sawyer shared her personal story of faith and freedom
Thursday, January 24th

In the spring of 1975, as South Vietnam teetered on the brink of collapse, Anh Vu Sawyer was a twenty year old medical student.  She had no idea that she was about to face the most terrifying ordeal of her life.

Anh, now married with three children, involved in a ministry to artists and writers in the U.S. and overseas, shared with PWF women  how God brought her through those unspeakably difficult times.

The program opened with an eleven-minute video including news footage from the 70's that vividly showed the world she lived in - a world of armed soldiers, random rocket attacks, horror, danger and fear.  During those days, Anh wondered what would happen to her if she died.  She prayed fervently for herself and her family daring to dream the impossible.  Hope and trust in God gave her peace and helped keep her optimism alive.

Anh encouraged those  present to believe God for their dreams, embrace and revisit them and know that they are not trivial but a way of communicating with Him. The God  who said "I will pour out my Spirit on all people, your sons and daughters will prophesy, your old men dream dreams and your young see visions.:"  (Joel 2:28 and Acts 2:18)
